Access
Please tell your confern removals customer service representative in detail about lorry/truck access to your new home.

If parking is not allowed our vans may only be allowed to load and unload with special authorisation. Please let us know if parking is not allowed outside your house and we will obtain authorisation.

Babysitter
Think about getting a babysitter for your little children on the day of the move.
 
Boats
We can transport boats with or without trailers. confern can advise you. We'll take care of it.

Boxes

If you want to use your curtains in your new home, they should be altered before the move.

Conditions of payment/credit period
Unless otherwise agreed, you should either pay cash or cheque when your goods are offloaded. Shipments leaving your country must be paid in advance. Speak to your removals advisor about the conditions of payment.

A confern service which goes beyond transporting furniture:
Dismantling and reassembling furniture, mounting kitchen cupboards, wall units, etc.

Providing electricians, plumbers, decorators, cleaners, radio and television technicians, etc. Deregistration and registration service with official agencies.
 
Content Insurance
Check your contents insurance before you move. The total value of your household has often increased since you moved in, as you will have acquired new items. The previous sum insured can be taken as a basis for the declared level of liability.
 
Customs
If you are moving abroad, your confern customer service representative will be happy to advise you which items from your property are subject to import restrictions, e.g. car, radio, TV, books. We are also happy to assist in completing customs declarations.

Damages
Any obvious damage should be noted and confirmed on the team's worksheet or specified in writing no later than the day after the delivery. If there is any damage to packed goods despite all our care, please let us know promptly in writing within 14 days after the delivery. Please see our Conditions of Liability for details.
 
Dates
Talk to your confern removal consultant well in advance about the dates for your move, even if these may still change. confern is always flexible when arranging dates. Your confern customer service representative will compile a timetable for your move after visiting you.
 
Discounts
Furniture removals is a service. We regret we are not able to grant discounts.
 
Disinfection
Disinfection of outdoor items and antique funiture is required when moving to certain countries. Ask your confern customer service representative.
 
Documents
Military papers, passports, files, pension papers and other important documents should always be kept in a seperate, safe place.
 
DO-It-Yorself-removals
Particularly inexpensive, but often quite troublesome. The following risks are often not considered: - a truck is not a passenger car - weight physical demand - fractures, squeezings etc. - furniture damages - additional costs of a rented car, risk of damage to other items and stairways: Most liability insurances have exclusions regarding self-made removals.
 
Drawers
Drawers can be left full of small items. Lock all drawers and look after the keys.
 
Deposit
Arrange for your deposit to be repaid.
 
Dismantling and rebuilding
Your furniture will be dismantled and rebuilt by confern's Full Service.
 
Dust sheets (protective floor covering)
Flooring, carpeting and marble tiling should be protected with dust sheets or plastic sheeting. It is a great help, especially in bad weather. Or you can let confern's Full Service handle it for you.

Electrical equipment
Check the manuals to see if your electrical equipment has to be secured for transportation by the customer services responsible for each item.
 
Empty boxes
Used packaging will be collected by your confern company if you wish so.
 
External elevator
Technical equipment used by confern, if lifts and staircases are not suited for removals.

Food
Any perishable food should be used up before the move.
 
Frozen food
Your freezer is not sturdy enough to be transported full without damage. Therefore please use up your supplies in good time. Freezers and refrigerators should not be switched on for at least 45 minutes after installation. The cooling fluid needs to settle so that the compressor is not harmed by bubbles forming. For this reason it is inadvisable to switch this equipment on during transportation.
 
Furniture Plan/Sketch
In order to simplify the move into your new home for yourself and your confern team, make a plan of where the furniture is to go with as much detail as possible.
 
Flammable items / liquids
Flammable items / liquids should be transported by yourself.

Garbage bags
Stock up on garbage bags so that no rubbish has to be left in your old home.
 
Garden
Inspect your garden and exterior.
 
GEZ
Register your television and radios.
 
Grand piano
Every confern company has a `grand piano sled´-special equipment for this purpose.
 
Groupage/part load
Our confern fleet is available throughout Europe. we can take your load along too. Ask your confern representative.

Hotel costs
Hotel costs can often be offset against taxes if you have to relocate for your work.
 
Health check
Before moving abroad you and your family should have a general health check.
 
Heating fuel supplies
If you want to sell your heating oil or other fuel supplies speak to your landlord or the person moving in after you.

Insurance
To cover all sorts of damage which can happen during a move we recommend that you take out transport insurance.
 
Inventory list
An inventory is a list of everything included in the removal. If you are moving abroad an inventory is essential, as well as being an aid to calculating the amount of insurance you need for contents and transportation and size of transport.

Lampshades
Lampshades are particularly fragile and expensive items. They are taken down and specially packed for transport.
 
Lawnmower
After final mowing, prepare your lawnmower for transporting: drain petrol, allow to air, detach ignition cable, secure the blades. If you intend to take your lawnmower overseas please contact your confern customer service representative for special regulationsor possible restrictions.
 
Liability
Our liability is extensive and user-friendly. Please read our Certificate of Liability in full. Ask for the confern information sheet.
 
A few key points: Our liability is extensive, but it does have limits. Please consult the Certificate of Liability for these limits. We recommend that you always declare the actual value of your property. Your confern advisor will explain the details. The actual value of your entire household contents should be given as the declared amount for liability.

Damages to stairways are covered by company liability insurance. All confern companies are voluntarily covered over and above compulsory insurance.

Lift
Don't take it for granted that lifts can be used by confern personnel-particularly with regard to dimensions and permitted weight. You should clarify this with your buliding superintendant beforehand.
 
Lights
Lights should be taken down by you or a workman, or by confern's Full Service before transporting.

Meter reading
Do not forget to read your meters.
 
Money/stocks/valuables
Money, stocks and valuables should all be transported by yourself.
 
Moving abroad
Special advice is important before moving abroad, not least because of the different laws of each country. Your confern customer service representative knows about these.
 
Moving within Europe with confern
Moving abroad with confern generally takes place within Europe by road in a furniture van. confern has its own companies across Europe which have in-depth knowledge of customs formalities and the law in different countries. We can offer you the same advantages whether you move within europe or within the same country.

New Furniture
If you have bought new furniture in your old home town for your new home, unpack it and check it for damage or faults. We cannot accept liability for furniture which we do not pack ourselves.

Notice / cancellation
Before moving you often have to cancel many contracts or agreements.

Office and company removals with confern
Wether you have 10 employees or 2000, all company moves have one common goal: keep disruptions of business to a minimum. Losses from nonworking hours due to a badly-organised move are sometimes greater than the costs of transportation.

Packing services and confern
Packing for export demands specialised skills-normal domestic packing is insufficient, regardless of wether it is a valuable sculpture, a painting, an expensive model railway, or medical or computer equipment which has to be packed. Special items demand special packing solutions, depending on the type of transport and the approach. Trust your confern professionals.

Pets
Your "fellow tenants" such as your dog, cat or canary will certainly be happier if they are left with good friends for the day of the move, because they would only be in the way. Your pets will be particularly happy on arriving in your new home if they are not left alone straight away.

Parking space
Parking space must be available for the confern's vans.

Piano
Transport of pianos is carried out by our experienced personnel similar to the transport of grand pianos, using both muscle and technical equipment.

Plants
Plants are especially sensitive to removals. confern packers know the right way to pack and transport plants. Please note that, by law, damage to plants is not included in our liability or transport insurance.

Post
Don't forget to arrange for your mail to be forwarded.

Prices
For long-distance transportation the price depends on the size of the load and the distance. If it is a local move, the price essentially depends on the hourly rate for personnel and vehicles. Added to this are costs for additional services. All prices are net, the applicable VAT is shown separately.

Packing materials
Besides the many types of boxes, we use all kinds of special packing materials to ensure your property arrives safely. This is supplied with the boxes brought by the confern team.

Packing
Packing is the most important preparation for the removal. confern will pack your belongings expertly. confern packers know how to do it. Everything is packed in the best possible way.

confern's trained and experienced packers will undertake this time-consuming, strenuous and responsible task, or you can pack non-breakable or less valuable items yourself, but please be careful. Packing often requires more time than you think when you are inexperienced. If you find yourself with more than you can handle, ring your confern customer service representative in good time so that we can send packers. That way everything is ready in time for the move.

Quality control
The quality of our service is continually independently audited by confern's headquarters in Mannheim. This enables us to maintain high standards.

Quotation
Find out about the quality and efficiency of the companies providing you with quotations. A confern quotation is free and puts you under no obligation.

Rain
Even confern's Full Service can't provide sunshine. So it's wise to cover the hallway and staircase with dust sheets or plastic coverings, or you can let the confern team deal with this.

Renovation work
Make an inspection with your landlord, and agree upon all necessary renovation work with him. Tip: Keep this record in written form. This can save you a lot of trouble and aggravation later.

Record of transfer
Complete a record of transfer when leaving your old home.

Registration
You should register as soon as possible with the various agencies in your new town.

confern representative
Make a date with a confern representative. Our representative will discuss every detail of your move with you, and plan and take care of everything, until you and your family arrive safely in your new home. You can talk to your representative about every aspect of your move.

Storage
If you have household items which you do not require immediately, we can store them in our furniture warehouse. The warehouse is guarded and dry. An orderly and proper storage is thus guaranteed. Should you require access to a stored item or items, this is of course possible. We also have special storage containers for short-term or intermittent storage (storage-in-transit). This avoids additional handling from the truck to the warehouse and vice-versa. Naturally we are also happy to handle transport to and from the warehouse. Ask us for the additional information on long or short term storage.

Spick and span
When leaving your old home it should be spick and span.

Tips
Our packers provide a personal service. If you are satisfied with their work it is normal to give them a tip. We call it a "performance premium". Talk to your confern representative about how much is fair. The head of your team will be happy to give you a receipt if you give him cash. If you are able to reclaim your removal costs or include them in your tax declaration remember that tips are also removal costs and may be deductible expenses.

Tools
Your confern team will bring a large assortment of tools on the day of your move. If you have an extra hammer, pliers and screwdriver, all the better.

Taxes
It is often possible to claim expenses, including additional costs and even your personal travel costs if you have to move for work-related reasons. Repair and redecorating work, particularly to improve insulation, can sometimes be offset in part against tax.

Tour
Before you leave your old home, look arround it one more time. Don't forget to check the cellar and loft.

All our services are subject to applicable VAT within the EC. This is shown seperately on the invoice. VAT can sometimes be reimbursed if you are moving outside the EC.

Wrapping material
Beside the various cardboard boxes, special wrapping material of all kinds are needed, so that your household goods arrive safely. These are supplied together with the boxes or are brought along by the crew.
